“My first position was that of registered nurse on a medical neurology floor. I now work in the Department of Anesthesia at the main campus, providing anesthesia to patients of all ages. I chose to work at Greenville Hospital System after graduating from nurse anesthesia school for multiple reasons.

“As a previous employee of the hospital system, I knew the value system and mission of the organization. I enjoyed being a part of the system as a registered nurse and felt that as a CRNA, GHS would be a good fit to developing my new career in advanced practice nursing.

“Greenville Hospital System is making active strides in developing well-trained clinicians. Because it is a Level I trauma center providing Level III neonatal services, I knew GHS would offer the clinical exposure to help me become a well-rounded nurse anesthetist. Participating in a clinical rotation gave me early exposure to the work environment and the staff members. I am excited to be a part of a department that is challenging to me clinically.

“With the development of university medical status, it is an exciting time at GHS. We work with current students from the Medical University of South Carolina and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in the clinical anesthesia component of their training, and soon, we will have students here full-time for their didactic and clinical training. The Department of Anesthesia and the anesthesiologists have been working together to launch this new program, and we are all quite excited about it and the way it reinforces our leadership in support of our profession.

“The GHS culture is focused on providing the best possible medical care to the patient. It is active and always changing. The leadership is present and responsive to the employees’ concerns and suggestions. The Department of Anesthesia and the OR staff as a whole work well together to provide excellent care to the patient. It is a team effort to give the individual undivided attention. And the lines of communication among the surgeons, anesthesiologists and OR staff are open and receptive.

“I would recommend GHS for career seekers because it’s a large hospital system with unlimited opportunities to grow and develop, both clinically and personally, and you have the privilege of helping patients and their families during their time of need. Working here helps you become a well-rounded anesthetist. On a daily basis, I am in situations that reinforce my knowledge and provide new learning opportunities. And GHS provides educational resources and technology to reinforce learning.”
