Nurse Residency Program
The Nursing Residency Program does not require a separate or new application (please do NOT create a new profile). The Nurse Residency program is an expectation for new graduate RN's who are hired into an Inpatient Staff RN role. All of our open positions can be found here on the GHS Careers website. Minimum qualifications are listed on each position.
Welcome to the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. As a new RN with less than 6 months nursing experience, you will be required to participate in the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center’s Nurse Residency Program. This 1-year program is intended for a new RN with direct care roles in the acute, rehabilitation, and long-term care hospital setting.
The Nurse Residency Program is a series of learning and work experiences designed to support newly graduated nurses in their development as professional nurses and members of the health care team. The Nurse Residency Program uses an evidence-based curriculum and focuses on research-based practice, patient safety, and professional development. This one-year program is facilitated by expert nurses with special emphasis on: critical thinking and problem-solving skills, leadership development, communication strategies, patient safety, and professional career planning.
An important need of new graduates is to gain confidence and grow in knowledge. The program culminates with a final evidence-based project where participants focus on topics about which they are passionate, such as developing an educational offering, nurse-sensitive outcomes, patient safety, policy revision, anything that affects care at the bedside, or creating a patient/family resource.
As a participant in the Nurse Residency Program the expectations for the nurse resident are: mandatory monthly seminar attendance (expectation of employment and educational requirement) for the duration of the 1-year program, active participation in the monthly seminar sessions, completion of an evidence-based project individually or with a team, and attendance at the Nurse Residency Graduation Celebration at the end of the 1-year program.
